About Me

Christian Gonzalez is the founder and lead instructor of Uncommon Applicants, a college essay program designed to help students develop thoughtful, distinctive essays while preserving their authentic voices.

Christian is a New Jersey–certified English and ESL teacher with 16 years of classroom experience. He currently teaches high school English at Princeton High School, where he has worked with students from a wide range of academic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. His experience includes teaching analytical, creative, and research writing, as well as supporting students through revision, reflection, and the challenge of writing about themselves.

Christian created Uncommon Applicants because the college essay process often leaves students feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or pressured to sound like someone they are not. His approach helps students identify meaningful stories, understand what those experiences reveal about them, and shape their experiences into clear, engaging essays. Students receive structured guidance, individualized feedback, and dedicated writing time without having their essays written for them.

At Uncommon Applicants, the goal is not simply to produce a polished application essay. It is to prepare students for the college experience by helping each student discover their authentic voice through honest self-reflection.
